Zena one of the rescue mares finally has her baby

We would like to welcome Luna to the world and what an exceptional foal she is. It is such an amazing story, when Zena first arrived she was so thin and unnurished, she was half way through her pregnancy cycle and had spent most of her life in a paddock with stallions and other mares. Most of her time was spent having foals and then being raped and falling pregnant again. Zena was the most skitish out of all the mares and used to have heart failure any time you would go near her. Over time she started to feel comfortable with the feeding patterns, being floated and moved from paddock to paddock, to this day you still can’t touch her.

Zena had her foal the day before Bianca’s birthday and I was in brisbane at the time, I was quite nervous about the birth, I really wanted to be there to make sure Zena and her new foal where fine. I quickly jumped in the car to be there and what a surprise, Zena was simply glowing, and there was Luna, so gorgeous, dark brown face with a perfect star in the middle, white body with large brown spots and a half black tail, such unusual markings, Luna has two blue eyes and long legs.

Mother and foal are doing fine and Zena is very comfortable about letting us near the foal. I have attached some photos so you can see. 10% of all commission goes to save and rehabilitate these horses so we can have happy stories like this one. Meet Peanut……Peanut love the name! really suits him….back to the story. Peanut is a well bred registered Paint horse and is 3 years old, peanut got nerve damage after an accident and falls over spontaneously. He can be running around like a normal horse and then just fall for no apparent reason. Peanut can never be ridden again, since Mandy has had him he has become so confident and full of himself, quite a larrikin in the paddock and yet submissive with all the girls.

Meet Boogie…..

Boogie is a fully registered Paint with impeccable bloodlines, she is 6 years old and fractured two areas of her hind legs, she faced euthanasia but with faith we had her operated on and she was hospitalised for 6 weeks and spent another 6 weeks in a stable. 4 weeks after we thought she was on the mend, she fractured her front knee, due to weight transference and again faced euthanasia but with care she is now hanging in there and can run like the wind even though her leg is very bent out of shape. Boogie will never be ridden or bare a foal however, the love Mandy has for this horse is the same as one of her children.

Meet Prantella…… Prantella is a young 30 years old and has been with Mandy since she was a baby, Mandy had her mother and breed her as a foal. Prantella shatterred her hock and face Euthanasia, she was operated on and spent 16 weeks in a stable. You simply couldn’t tell she runs just like the young ones.

Mandy Secures her 87 acres

Mandy’s dream has finally come true. After an agonizing 6 to 12 months, Mandy and Steve have received the news they have been waiting for. The fabulous 87 acres will be theirs. Located only 2 minutes out of Pomona, this gentle mostly cleared block will be the start of their Horse Rescue centre. Mandy plans to build an american barn and convert it into a very funky home. The land will be made up of paddocks, stables and yards so that she can take in the horses and care for them until new homes have been found.
